Course Description
- This course provides an overview of the role of Occupational Therapy (OT) within the Douglas County School District. Participants will learn to distinguish between school-based and medical-based models of OT, emphasizing that school-based services must be educationally relevant and focused on student participation and access to instruction. The course covers key responsibilities of school OTs—such as supporting motor skills, sensory processing, and self-help—and highlights the essential, collaborative role that educational assistants play in implementing OT strategies, collecting data, and supporting student independence in the classroom.
