Full course description
Course Description
- In 2020 Governor Polis signed HB20-1336 mandating the adoption and implementation of academic standards which incorporate the teaching of the Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Two DCSD teachers - Abby Basile (TRHS) and Mark Thorsen (PHS) - joined a statewide committee tasked with investigating, creating, and implementing this legislation. This included the crafting of specific standards for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, creating a robust implementation guide, and establishing partnerships with the U.S. Holocaust Museum and Colorado Holocaust Educators. Join Abby and Mark, along with Todd Hennessy (CO Holocaust Educators), as they engage in an overview of the standards, discussions on new pedagogy, explorations on teaching tough topics, identify compelling resources, and connections to rich community supports.
