Course Description
- Elevate your understanding of Section 504 and its practical application through the "504 Expert Series: Beyond the Basics." This flexible series of "Lunch & Learn" sessions provides school administrators, counselors, nurses, and other staff with in-depth knowledge on specific disabilities and topics under Section 504 enhancing your ability to identify eligibility needs, effectively assess student requirements, and craft robust, legally compliant 504 plans. Each session features the District 504 Coordinator alongside a specialized guest expert, offering actionable strategies for equitable access and support, ensuring all students can thrive. Attend any or all sessions relevant to your professional development goals.

Outcomes

- Enhanced Identification & Assessment Skills: Participants will be better equipped to identify students who may need 504 accommodations and to conduct more comprehensive needs assessments for a range of disabilities and health conditions.
- Improved 504 Plan Development & Implementation: Participants will gain actionable strategies for crafting legally compliant and effective 504 plans, ensuring equitable access and support for students with diverse needs, including those with ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, and various health conditions.
- Strengthened Collaboration & Referral Pathways: Participants will clarify the relationship between Section 504 and other tiered support systems (like IMTSS/RtI) and understand when and how to effectively collaborate with families and specialized personnel (e.g., nurses, dyslexia specialists, gifted coordinators).
