Course Description
- Diabetes Care Tasks at School is a training developed by the American Diabetes Association for key personnel to be educated in diabetes care in a 19 module training curriculum. Each module provides a power point presentation containing key information about specific diabetes care tasks with quizzes imbedded in the presentation and a final quiz at the end requiring an 80% passing rate.
- After the online presentation is completed, you will need to complete a hands-on training with the Diabetes Resource Nurse. You can schedule through your School Nurse Consultant for the hands-on training.

Outcomes
- Recognize Symptoms & Respond Appropriately
- Identify signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).
- Understand the immediate steps for treating both conditions.
- Administer Treatment Safely & Effectively
- Demonstrate proper administration of fast-acting carbohydrates for hypoglycemia.
- Follow district-approved protocols for administering insulin or other corrective measures for hyperglycemia.
- Understand emergency procedures, including glucagon administration and when to call 911.
- Ensure Staff Confidence & Readiness
- Train staff to respond calmly and efficiently to diabetic emergencies.
- Clarify roles and responsibilities in the care of students with diabetes.
- Provide hands-on practice and Q&A to reinforce learning.
- Promote a Supportive Environment
- Reduce anxiety for parents and students by ensuring staff are trained and prepared.
- Encourage communication and collaboration between school staff, students, and families.
